AV Systems Commissioning

Building Commissioning Handbook

AV Best Practices Book

Project Commissioning is not just an activity to check out systems at the end of a project. It includes activities from the program phase all the way through checkout, testing, alignment and turnover to the end users. We use as our guide the procedures outlined by the Building Commissioning Association (BCA) in the Building Commissioning Handbook. These procedures are augmented and adjusted for AV system commissioning according to the Audiovisual Best Practices book and the ongoing work by the InfoComm Project Commissioning Working Group. To this end, we offer AV systems commissioning services that include the following tasks:

Program Verification and
Commissioning Target-Setting

At the beginning of the project, the AV program should be verified, and the AV system incorporated into the commissioning plan. Part of this activity is to set system performance targets for each major sub-system in the AV project: Audio, Video, and Control. These targets include parameters such as display contrast ratios, sound reinforcement signal-to-noise ratios and gain before feedback, sound system coverage, and control system navigational performance.

Design Phase Monitoring

In an third-party commissioning role, design documents are reviewed for adherence to the program, and adjustments are made to the commissioning plan if needed as the project proceeds.

Construction / Installation Phase Monitoring

Monitoring of the construction process is provided as needed depending on the project team's configuration. Tasks such as submittal reviews and pre-installation testing or test report reviews are provided in preparation for final installation and commissioning.

Commissioning Phase

System installation on site is monitored if needed. Once the systems are ready for commissioning, the on-site system tests are performed as defined by the commissioning plan, punch lists are prepared if needed, and the system is turned over to the owner. On some projects, training on the system can be conducted by Technitect as the commissioner.
